What are LED lights?
LED stands for ‘light emitting diode’. LED lights are the most energy efficient light bulbs available in the UK today. LED light bulbs last longer and use 90% less energy than halogen and incandescent lighting and 60% less than fluorescent lighting.
LED lights give a directional light source, meaning they emit light in a specific direction. Incandescent, or fluorescent lighting emit light (and heat) in all directions. A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), also called compact fluorescent light, energy-saving light and compact fluorescent tube, is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent light bulb; some types fit into light fixtures that are designed for incandescent bulbs. But all can be replaced with the more energy efficient LEDs, so do ask 365 Trade Group for advice on replacing your CFL or halogen lighting with LED lighting. One of the benefits of LED lighting that contribute to their energy efficiency is the fact that LEDs do not emit heat unlike traditional light bulbs. The lack of heat means that LEDs can use light and energy more efficiently in a multitude of applications.
LEDs and Heat
LEDs use heat sinks to absorb the heat produced by the LED and dissipate it into the surrounding environment. This keeps LEDs from overheating and burning out. Thermal management is generally the single most important factor in the successful performance of an LED over its lifetime. The higher the temperature at which the LEDs are operated, the more quickly the light will degrade, and the shorter the useful life will be.
Where would you use LED lighting?
LEDs are incorporated into bulbs and fixtures in general lighting applications. They are small in size; therefore, the LEDs can provide unique design opportunities and lighting solutions. You can get LED bulbs to look like traditional light bulbs, so they can be a good replacement to traditional bulbs. Because LED light bulbs do not get hot they can be used for all sorts of lighting designs, for instance, coloured LED lighting strips can be used to accentuate stair ways, kitchen cabinets and shelving in residential, retail or commercial properties (to name just a few). They are safer than traditional light bulbs due to the lack of heat they emit so they can be used as lighting solutions where heat is a factor, for example in children’s lamps, inside wardrobes, in study areas next to flammable items such as paper and soft furnishings, etc.
What LED lighting is available in UK
There are many different types of energy efficient LED lighting available in the UK. They can be used in lots of different applications including sign lighting, exhibitions, retail outlets, scenery (in theatres and film), education establishments and throughout residential properties. 365 Trade Group can supply and install waterproof LEDs, LED strip lights, LED bulbs, LED aluminium profiles, automated LEDs, decorative LEDs, LED floodlights and LED drivers and power supplies.
